Glass Miniatures - History
Glass blowing with a flame began in the Thuringia Forest area of Germany over more than 150 years ago.
Then it was mostly perfume bottles, simple laboratory equipment and loose items that were laboriously
produced. In particular, the first light bulbs, thermometers and thermos flasks were developed and
produced here.
Thuringia Christmas tree decorations and artificial eyes are famous the world over.
The meaning of the little glass devil in glass production
During my time as an apprentice to a glass apparatus blower in the Sixties many simple and
complicated glass objectives broke without any particular reason. The Thuringia apparatus
glass was especially susceptible, as it often did not tolerate part of the smelting process.
For me there
seemed to be no reason that so many pieces of glass should break.
I often reacted angrily with the words: “The (glass) devil is behind this.”
In the workshop we set a broom upside down in order to drive away the evil spirits.
The decanter, which the little glass devil is holding with a grin, is cracked from top to bottom –
and could be titled “Things that can’t be explained.”
Only the little glass devil knew and knows why to this day!
Glass miniatures also have these devilish risks...
With a good foundation as a glass apparatus blower and over forty years of experience in the area of
technical and art glass, I have been producing dolls’ house miniatures
to the scale of 1:12 and 1:16 in my own workshop since 1992.
At the beginning I produced simple shapes, but today my products are valuable collector’s items and
exquisite unique pieces.
It is also possible to fulfil special customer wishes.
Let my products convince you!
